Scottish & Newcastle Pub Company Invests in Surrey Pubs with New UK Operator

Scottish & Newcastle Pub Company is investing £620k in two Surrey pubs with pub operator Gaughans Ltd this autumn.
The Dog & Partridge in Yateley reopens in September following a £220k refurbishment and the Bear & Ragged Staff at Wrecclesham will open in November after a £400k project.
The pubs are the first two sites in the UK for Gaughans Ltd who have previously operated pubs and hotels in Ireland. Director Martin Gaughan says the company has plans to expand further in the UK creating a group of excellent traditional, community pubs focusing on service and standards.
Situated in the heart of Yateley next to the church and on the village green, the Dog & Partridge has been restored to its former glory as a top quality local with a clean, contemporary look, beautiful modern fireplaces, increased sales area, relandscaped garden with two patio areas, new cellar and a full refitted kitchen serving home cooked pub food.
S&N Pub Company’s Business Development Manager Paul Clarke believes the best garden in Yateley, reasonable prices for great food and drink and a family friendly policy will make the Dog & Partridge stand out in the area.
The Grade II listed Bear & Ragged Staff is also being refurbished to a high standard. Situated in the affluent Farnham area it will be an outstanding traditional pub with a dining area and its own chef. As well as attracting business from the immediate area, it is expected to be a ‘drive to’ destination for customers wanting excellent food in a pub environment.
Gaughans also specialises in pub and hotel refurbishments and they have undertaken the construction work at the sites working with S&N Pub Company’s designers. “We shared the same vision as S&N Pub Company for the pubs and it has been great to be involved in their relaunch from the start,” says Martin Gaughan. “S&N Pub Company has been extremely easy to work with; open, helpful and driven, like us, to get the sites just right. And, as an independent operator, we have appreciated the freedom they have given us to put our own mark on the pubs.”
