Welcome to the Scottish & Newcastle Pub Company Code of Practice. As one of the UK’s leading pub companies, our goal is simple: to build successful and sustainable business partnerships with our lessees and tenants. That’s why we are absolutely committed to providing the information and guidance you need to succeed – backed by a positive, two way dialogue and excellent support.

At Scottish & Newcastle Pub Company (S&NPC) we understand that taking on a pub is a major business commitment and we want to make sure that all of our lessees fully understand the agreements that they enter into and the opportunities that these bring. This Code of Practice aims to give both first-time and experienced pub operators a clear and jargon-free understanding of how we work with our lessees and tenants, and the responsibilities and obligations that are accepted by each party.

Quite rightly, our tenants expect something special from S&NPC. As part of Heineken UK, the UK’s largest beer and cider business and Heineken NV, the world’s most international brewer, our reputation is built on some of the industry’s greatest brands. From John Smith’s, the UK’s number one ale, and Foster’s, the number two mainstream lager, through to international premium brands such as Heineken and Kronenbourg 1664, we’re part of a tremendous beer heritage. But it doesn’t stop there. We’ve been making cider in Hereford since 1887, now home to Strongbow, the UK’s number one draught cider and Bulmers Original, the best selling premium packaged cider in the country.

Every year Heineken invests heavily to further strengthen its brand presence – ensuring that you have the products that your customers really want to drink. I believe that here at S&NPC we have a winning combination of great pubs, great products and great support. I look forward to us achieving even greater things together in the future.

S&NPC Code of Practice

The BBPA, BII and FLVA have recently agreed an enhanced Industry Framework Code which has been sent to the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills. The new Code introduces a formalised conciliation and advisory service, a tri-annual review process and a range of technical improvements. This new and Enhanced Framework Code will supersede the existing Framework Code. This is a document that will be treated as legally binding for the benefit of our lessees from the 1st January 2012, with the exception of clauses that require changes to our own Code of Practice. As a result the SNPC Code of Practice is currently being updated. The Addendum to our current Code of Practice, attached below, has been formally accredited by the British Institute of Innkeeping Benchmarking and Accreditation Services (BIIBAS) and reflects the changes which will be made to our Code when it is re-issued. The points contained in the Addendum are treated as legally binding for the benefit of our lessees from the 1st January 2012.
